I'm Jon Thurlow.
And I’ve spent about 10,000 hours over the last 20 years leading worship for churches, prayer ministries, and events all over the globe. Along the way, I've been privileged to lead or co-write with artists and worship leaders from Bethel Music, Maverick City, UpperRoom, IHOPKC, Housefires, and other worship ministries.
And I know what it’s like to want to take the room to a deeper place with Jesus- but feel stuck in a swirl of doubt, comparison, people-pleasing, and shame. I’ve struggled with thoughts like, “I don’t have as good a voice as that worship leader.” Or, “That person is SO gifted and popular! If I can get them to notice me, then I’ll feel better about myself as a worship leader.” Or, “My life is such a mess...I don’t deserve to be worship leading right now.”
But over the years, through my own personal struggles, my journey with Jesus, a lot of onstage experience, and ultimately the grace of God- I discovered a path forward. I found a way to face the issues, overcome them, and take my heart, my team, and the room DEEPER in worship.
By developing my conversation and connection with Jesus offstage and onstage, I’ve been able to...
- Find an answer for my internal traffic and identity struggles as a worship leader
- Recognize and sense what the Lord might want to highlight in a worship set
- Confidently step into the moment and lead with clarity.
- Help my band and singers jump in with me, and then bring the room into that same space- so we’re all worshipping together.
More recently I’ve been able to share what I've discovered with over a hundred students, through my worship training!
